One graduated single strand pearl necklace, seventeen and one half inch princess length, knotted with an 14KT white gold eleven millimeter scalloped plunger style clasp containing thirty seven Tahitian cultured pearls, 10.00 mm in size to 12.50 mm in size. The pearls are greenish black to black in color, exhibiting orient with a high luster, thick nacre, round to mostly round, lightly to moderately spotted, with good uniformity. Tahitian cultured pearls form in the large "Black Lipped" Pinctada Margaritifera, oyster which is about twice the size of the Japanese Akoya oyster. This warm water species from across the central and South Pacific Ocean is at home in the bays and lagoons of the islands and atolls of French Polynesia. Tahitian cultured pearl farmers generally raise their oysters in lagoons. Tahitian cultured pearls take from two to four years to form. Tahitian cultured pearls are known for their iridescent, vibrant, almost metallic natural colors, unique among saltwater cultured pearls. Though commonly called "Tahitian" pearls, black pearls are actually gray, to lighter or darker degree. Black pearls have the unique ability to display a variety of colors at the same time, which can be seen glistening on their surface. AIG Appraised at $11,250.00.
