One electronically tested 14KT yellow gold ladies cast & assembled diamond and seed pearl brooch/pendant. The brooch/pendant features a diamond set within a stylized seed pearl lattice, completed by a horizontally placed pin and hidden bail. Bright polish finish with milgrain detailing. Identified with markings of "14K". Condition is good. Containing: One prong set Old European cut diamond, measuring 3.00 - 2.90 x 1.83mm (depth est.) approximate weight of 0.10ct. Cutting style circa early 19th century. Graded in the setting. Clarity: SI-1. Color: J 66 seed pearl pearls, 2.5mm in size to 1.0mm in size. The pearls are cream in color with a medium luster, off-round, lightly spotted with good uniformity Graded in the setting. A seed pearl is a small natural pearl, formed in either a saltwater oyster or fresh water mussel, that is usually less the a one-quarter grain in weight and smaller then 2mm in size and off-round in shape. In jewelry they are used as decorative borders, tiny accents in small patterns or in larger clusters woven together to make up an entire piece of jewelry. One of the most historically famous examples of seed pearl jewelry is that of a seed pearl suite (a necklace and two matching bracelets) purchased on April 28, 1862 from Tiffany and Co. for Mary Todd Lincoln from President Abraham Lincoln to wear to the first Lincoln inaugural ball.
