Ametrine brings together the gold of Citrine and the purple of Amethyst. The unusual color variation found in Ametrine is due to the presence of iron that has oxidized at different states within the same crystal structure. This is a natural process. The world's only known source of Ametrine is the Anahi Mine in Bolivia. The Anahi mine began organized production in the early 1600's by the Spanish Conquistadors. The mine is named after the wife of the first owner, an Ayoreos Tribal Princess named Anahi. The native people of the Ayoreos Tribe inhabit the central plains of South America. Ametrine became popular in the United States about 1980 when material from the Anahi mine in Bolivia began to appear on the market in large quantities. Before 1980 Ametrine was quite unusual and was known as Amethyst-Citrine Quartz, or Golden Amethyst. Ametrine is usually highlighted by cutting the gem into rectangular shapes. Thirty-seven bead & bezel set round brilliant cut diamonds, measuring 3.50 - 2.00 x 1.65mm (depth est.) approximate total weight of 37 Stones = 1.32ct. Graded in the setting. Clarity SI-1 to I-1.
