This particular color combination is usually indicative of tourmaline from the state of Paraiba, village of Sao Jose da Batalha in northeastern Brazil. However, the origin for this tourmaline is determined to be the African Continent. African Paraiba color Tourmaline was first discovered in 2001 at the Edoukou Mine in Oyo Nigeria, close to the border of Benin and more recently in Zambezia, Mozambique. African Paraiba is believed to exist due to the continental drift theory. 200+ million years ago the earth's continents were joined together in one enormous super-continent called Pangaea. Compare the profile of western Africa and eastern South America; they fit together like pieces in a puzzle. This comparison suggests that they once belonged to a single landmass with similar geological conditions. The African tourmalines were created under the same conditions as the tourmalines from Paraiba, before the continents drifted apart. The African Paraiba color tourmaline is mined in alluvial deposits, the Brazilian Paraiba is mined underground. Ten prong set round brilliant cut natural yellow sapphires, measuring 2.00 - 1.80 x 1.24 mm, approximate total weight of 0.40ct., clarity is slightly included, type II, medium dark, slightly brownish, yellow color, (GIA Y 6/2), cut is good.
